It’s a brave new world for teens (and their parents!) heading off to high school as some will be driving themselves to school with their newly minted driver’s license. Are you ready for that? Sure, it’s great to have another person able to help out being the family taxi driver, but it’s important to make sure teens understand the risks associated with being a new driver. Some of the things to consider:

Who’s in the car with them?

Are they really where they say they’ll be?

Are they paying attention while driving or texting their friends?

Are they driving safely to and from their extracurricular activities?

Are they looking out and being cautious in school zones in an effort to avoid an accident?

Remember, driving is a privilege not a right and teens need to accept the rules you put in place. Back-to-school is a fun time of year for new teen drivers, but it can also be dangerous with all the extra road and foot traffic. I love hosting Twitter parties about topics like this where parents can walk away with some great tips on how to navigate the teen years, keep them safe and get some peace of mind.
