Here’s my first video from the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas. This is the show where any company that has a product geared towards kids comes to show their goods. And let me tell you, there are some incredible products out there!
Tomorrow I’ll be sharing with you some new, innovating safety products but for now here’s just a little sampling of what’s out there and a great new product, the Cuddle Seat.

I recently ran across some humorous ads that Evenflo did for their new car seat, the Momentum 65. Here is the latest.

Not only are they funny but they really capture the hassle people go through trying to get a car seat installed properly and keeping their baby safe.

As some of you know, along with my blogging, I have a baby proofing company in the New York, Connecticut and New Jersey areas – Safety Mom Solutions. Many times when we go into families homes and do a consultation, they’re overwhelmed and stressed when we point out the various hazards. We try to explain to them that this isn’t something to be freaked out over and become neurotic, but rather we give them some realistic, pro-active steps they can take to keep their family safe and happy.

That’s why I was happy to see Evenflo take a bit of a tongue-in-cheek approach in these spots. It doesn’t have to be so serious to get the point across. In fact, I think it is a bit more effective when we’re not as serious. I mean really, as moms, couldn’t we all use a little laugh every now and then?

What these spots do point out is how easy the Evenflo car seats are to install. There’s nothing worse than struggling to get a car seat installed in your car, the babysitter’s car or grandma’s car as your kids are standing outside the door screaming at each other. By the time you’re done you’re a sweaty mess and wondering if it’s even worth it to take the kids anywhere!

I recently used the Evenflo® Momentum 65 DLX Convertible car seat on my trip to Hershey Park and Lancaster, PA for my daughter Hannah. It’s equipped with Evenflo’s SureLATCH technology which provides a large clip to connect into the anchor system so you don’t have to break your fingers searching for the thing. Literally, you just click, click and it’s attached. Then push down on the car seat and it continues to get tighter. The other benefit was the e3 Side Impact™ Triple-layer foam technology which reduces side-impact crash forces by 50%.

You can check it out more about the seat for yourself HERE.

Overall, I’m not a fan of reality shows. I’m tired of seeing people belittling other people, backstabbing and the other nonsense all for the sake of “good TV.” There are, of course, exceptions. Shows like American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance? which allow ordinary people that just need a break to shine.

And that’s why I’m entering Oprah’s contest to get a show on her new channel. As The Safety Mom, www.safetymom.com, I have had the opportunity to speak with so many incredible people. Parents who have either lost a child or come very close to it but have taken that tragedy and helped others. People who have formed organizations to fight cyber bullying, locate missing children and tackle issues of obesity. I’ve also received amazing e-mails from parents who thank me for opening up about my struggles and hardships because it’s helped them realize they’re not alone in their battles or because I’ve given them resources on where to turn for help.

Mark Burnett (the creator of such hit shows as Survivor and The Apprentice!) and Oprah are teaming up to –yes – create a reality show about finding the new show for Oprah’s network, OWN. If I were to become a finalist it seems I would have to go through “boot camp” for six weeks to win. Hmmmm, not exactly thrilled by that idea.

But, when I lost my son Connor to SIDS and when I learned my oldest has severe intellectual disabilities, I knew that I was meant to be on the path I’ve chosen. Talking to other people about family tragedies and struggles and helping them realize they’re not alone! That, after all is what got me through some of my darkest days – still does.

We are incredibly resilient creatures and we can overcome just about anything. Sometimes we just need to hear that someone’s out there willing to help us and even lend a shoulder to cry on once in a while. So yes, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to create a show that will feature everyday parents like you and me who have experienced incredible tragedies but have gone on to change the world. I also will talk to amazing kids who are making a difference in their communities and others who are still going through struggles and need a little help.

So, I’m asking for your help and support – CLICK HERE to view my video and vote as often as you like until June 25th.
